Irma M. Ashbacher, 100, of Caledonia, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Caledonia Care and Rehab.
She was born June 10, 1915, in Union City Township, Iowa, to Henry and Caroline (Koenig) Beneke and grew up in Sleepy Hollow, Iowa. On March 4, 1935, Irma married Milton Ashbacher at the Wheatland Church, Union City Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. She was employed as a nurse’s aide and worked at the Waukon Hospital and the Caledonia Hospital. Irma and Milton farmed in Union City Township for many years. He preceded her in death on December 21, 1965. Irma enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Survivors include two children, Shirley (Richard) Meyer of Ridgeway, Iowa, and Gary (Jean) Ashbacher of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her husband, Irma was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Garland; four sisters; and one brother.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Eitzen, Minnesota, Pastor Michael McCann will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
