Mary Lewis, 92, of Caledonia, Minnesota, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia.
She was born April 6, 1923, in Caledonia to James and Lena (Schobert) Carroll. Mary graduated from Loretto High School in Caledonia and on June 21, 1945 she married Bob Lewis. Bob preceded her in death on November 26, 1992. Mary worked with Bob, side by side on their farm, where they raised their family. She was a 4-H leader, member of the Homemakers group and Circle A Saddle Club. Having lost her son, Roger, in the Vietnam War, she was a Gold Star Parent and also a member of the Caledonia American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling with Bob and enjoyed playing cards. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and it’s Council of Catholic Women.
Mary is survived by four daughters, Helen (George) Hill of Houston, Minnesota; Jean (Karl) Stokman of Eitzen, Minnesota; Beth (Tom) Baxter of Waukon, Iowa; and Barb (Dave) Droivold of Spring Grove, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Ferguson of Rochester, Minnesota; and special friends, Don and Fran Gerber of Strasburg, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, son, and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant grandson; two sisters, Dorothy and Lorraine; and three brothers, John, Verle, and Bill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Matt Fasnacht will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, at St. Mary’s Holy Family Hall, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
