Violet Margaret Rud, 96, of Caledonia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016 at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia.
Violet was born Nov. 14, 1919 in Caledonia to Emil and Magdelena (Hemmer) Demmer. She married Earl Rud Feb. 22, 1944 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. They celebrated 60 years together before Earl passed away on March 22, 2004. Violet farmed with her husband and enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking and playing cards. She also loved polka music and dancing. She worked various places and most recently at ALCO. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son, Steve Rud, of Caledonia; three granddaughters, Laurie Rud, La Crosse, Wis.; Annie (Rud) Shay, La Crescent, Minn.; and Lynn (Matt) Fitzpatrick, Holmen, Wis.; five great-grandchildren, Carter, Isabelle, Gracie, Kinsley, and Parker; three sisters, Gladys Myhre, Spring Grove, Minn., Lorraine Myhre, Onalaska, Wis. and Florence “Sis” (Myron) Anderson, Ankeny, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, Earl, she was preceded in death by her parents; great grandson, Henry Shay; daughter in law, Jeannie Rud; sister, Lucille Sprunk; and brother, Lawrence “Bud” Demmmer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia.
Father Matt Fasnacht will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Holy Family Hall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be given to Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia.
