Paul Vickerman

Paul  I.  Vickerman,  age 76, of rural Mabel died unexpectedly Friday, March 26, 2016 at his home.

Paul was born June 7, 1939 at home in the Wisel area of the “Big Woods” in Fillmore County, Minn. to Irvin and Marion (Soiney) Vickerman. He attended the “Cigar Box” country school near Amherst then the Spring Grove Public School. From 1962 to 1964 he served in the United States Army.  Paul farmed the family farm, drove semi and straight trucks, purchased the Victor Mitchell farm in the late 1960s, worked at Mabel Quality Redi Mix, was proud to have worked on Wake Island for 14 months and did custom bulldozing.

He enjoyed working with farm equipment and horses and collecting miniature farm toys. He enjoyed his daily visits with the regulars at BBG’s, was very involved with the Friendship Wagon Train for Camp Winnebago and going on trail rides and spending hours with family and friends over many cups of coffee.

Paul is survived by two sons, Shannon (Shirley) Vickerman of Caledonia, Minn., and Shelby Vickerman of Mabel; a grandson, Andrew; special friend, Julie Lau, of Harmony; brothers and sisters, Phyllis Waadevig of Chatfield, Lois Day of Mabel, Ronald (Judy) Vickerman of Mabel, Curtis (Lisa) Vickerman of Mabel, Gary Vickerman of Leroy, Linnett Williams of Mabel and Laurie (Al) Wendel of Mabel; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Marion Vickerman; a sister, Diana; infant nieces, Kari Ann Vickerman and Jodi Wilhelmson; and brothers-in-law, Clifford Waadevig and Jim Day.

To honor Paul’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral.  The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting the family.
